I'm using SQL Server 2008 SP1 Management Studio. I'm trying to connect to a new instance of SQL Server 2008 R2 and I'm unable to connect. Our server person is currently trying to resolve this, but I don't want him to waste his time if SP1 cannot connect to R2.
Does anyone know if I have to have R2 to connect to R2 or can I connect to it with SP1?
EDIT: From what I've been able to find on-line, the answer is yes, I can. If anyone can point me to documentation that confirms this or that says I can't, I'd appreciate it.

Yes, you can connect to SQL Server 2008 R2 instance from SQL Server 2008 SP1 client.
Make sure you have opened firewall for settings fro SQL Server to be connected from outside the box.
