have to restore a database with some old data and the file seems to be corrupt. restores a 25GB mdf but the ldf seems to be corrupt. i get an error after 90% and it stays in the restore state all the time.
can i create a new blank ldf for it? i was trying to find Paul Randall's method since i lost the link. will it work in this case?

Probably not if it didn't finish restoring. Try continue_after_error.

The media family on device 'd:\xxxxxx.bak' is incorrectly formed
this is the error i get. i get out of the db restore and it says restoring
tried to stop sql, rename the ldf file and restart SQL and then go to emergency mode. wouldn't do it because it was in restoring state

Got another backup? That one looks toast.
I assume that continue_after_error didn't help?
