Hi
Not sure if anybody else has experienced this problem or more imporantly whether they know of a solution - i'm sure its a simple fix...
I created a new report item in one of my SSRS 2008 projects. I saved the report and closed down Visual Studio. When I later re-opened the file the report did not appear in Design Mode (as is the norm) but appeared as xml code.
Does anybody know how i can change the code back into the design view?
Thanks in advance.

Did you open the report through solution explorer (i.e. open the project/solution, then open the report).
I've seen this happen when I opened a .rdl file directly...I think it opened in a different version of visual studio that I had installed that didn't recognize rdl files...

Yes, that's right - I opened the Project folder and then within the Visual Studio Solution Explorer i opened the report item itself. It's odd because this is the usual way i open reports with no problems but for some reason today - my deadline for deploying my final report onto Sharepoint! - it decides to baffle me!
Any help greatly appreciated.

It seems that the .rdl suffix disappeared from my reports name - I don't recall doing this but you never know...
To solve the problem I just Saved As the report adding the .rdl suffix to the report name, closed the report and re-opened.

Oh, didn't think of that! I'm glad you figured it out...sometimes it's the simplest things that can trip you up.
