disk config for multi instance cluster

    Hi all,

    So I have 16 disks to build a nice shine new storage for our cluster that has 3 instances on it. My plan was to split it into 3. 8 disks for (raid 10) data that would then be split into 3 for per instance. 4 disk( raid10) for log files again split into 3 for each instance and the last 4 disks again in raid 10 for the tempdbs.

    Orginally I was happy with this, but now im wondering is raid 10 worth it for logs and tempdb if im not getting the seq writes since the disks will split into 3.

    Does any one have some design advice or some links for your how to ment to work out what's the greater gain from your disk!

    I would suggest that you use perfmon trace and do an IO analysis on your application's current IO pattern (what are the typical IOPS, transfer sizes) and then design from there. You may be surprised.
