Hi all
I am new to here and am about to do a sql 2008 course . I am just wondering what do you all recommend for the best ways to learn sql 2008 ?. I work as a helpdesk analyst at the moment but am looking at learning sql 2008 for the company I work for . Any information/ reading material or tips that any of you could recommend would help. As at the moment I don't really know where best to start.

It all depends on how you are built to learn...do you learn better by reading text independently? do you learn by doing? do you learn best via dialogue with a more experienced person?
Cruising the forums here on SSC are a great way to learn. There are some really smart people on this site that will thank you for asking a well-formed question that shows a willingness to learn. Find forums covering topics that interest you, subscribe to a few threads and see how problems are solved by people already doing things today that you want to do down the line.
I would recommend downloading and installing a copy of SQL 2008 Express Edition on your machine (work policy permitting, otherwise at home) so you can "play" without affecting others. Then you can work the code samples from the threads on your own.
There are no special teachers of virtue, because virtue is taught by the whole community.
