sql server 2008 R2 licencing question

    If I have device cals and a server cal for sql server 2008 R2 does the device cal allow me to install client tools on the cd to connect to server functionality (e.g BIDS, SSMS etc).

    Yes, the device CAL allows you to install client tools for all licensed devices, no matter what kind of operations you perform on the server.

    A device or client CAL should give you the right to install client tools, but if you are unsure, call MS licensing and ask.
