We have some servers are in SQL 2005 sp2.
If we want to upgrade to newer service pack, is it better to upgrade to SP3 or SP4? It's very hard for us to coordinate the time for upgrade, we don't want to make this too many times?
Thanks

The annoying answer is whatever sp will work for your application. So yes that means testing them all.
As for time issues. It'll take just about the same time to install sp4 or sp3 regardless of what sp level the server is at this point. (S4 contains all SP3 updates as well).
Assuming your apps works with SP4, I'd just go straight to that sp leve.

To add to the discussion, you should focus your testing on SP4 as it will be required by Microsoft the first minute you need to contact them for user support. With the retirement of SQL Server 2005 mainline support, it is now a must to be up to the current release.

What does "retirement of SQL Server 2005 mainline support" mean?
Do they no longer support SQL Server 2005?
Thanks
