Job Outlook?

  • Hello to all, dont know if this post applies here, but I was wondering what my chances are of landing a database development job or junior dba. I am graduating in June with a BS in Computer Information Systems with an emphasis on Database systems. I will be sitting for my 70-433 in July/August. Experience wise, I worked as a fraud investigator for 3 years, but during that time I managed the department database, ran queries, updates, forms, etc. It was an MS Access database. Thoughts??

  • Ask recruiters in your local area. They'll know the local market better than we will, and will have a better idea of what will fly and what won't.

  • From my experience, don't think that it's tough to find a position with little real world experience. I've seen many people straight out of college with no on the job experience hired for DBA positions. I've seen people with no formal education hired as junior DBAs. Although junior, it's a start. Be confident and don't stop growing and expanding your skill set. Show potential and demonstrate that you work hard with exceptional work ethic no matter what your immediate responsibilities are. Good hiring managers will see those qualities and invest in your future.

    Good luck!

  • If you are really good your chances are really good. 😮

To express it algebraically: your chance of being hired is directly proportional to how well you impressed the person who interviews you.

The probability of survival is inversely proportional to the angle of arrival.

  • Thanks for the advice.
