You should apply cumulative updates for SQL Server Setup before you install SQL Server 2008

  • I'm reading the document SQLServer2008FailoverCluster and I have a question from the below paragraph:

Important: If you are applying Service Pack 1 for SQL Server 2008 or later, consider using the new slipstream functionality, not only to reduce the installation time but also to have the benefit of setup fixes. If you are not going to install a service pack, you should apply cumulative updates for SQL Server Setup before you install SQL Server 2008

Please see the highlated portion. Here how can we apply cumulative updates for SQL Server setup before we install SQL Server 2008?

    Please clarify me

  • Mani

This is not requirement if you are NOT installing SQL Server 2008 on Windows Server 2008 R2 but it is requirement to perform installation either using SlipStream method or Update original installation media with SP1 before you start otherwise installation will fail and then you will end up by cleaning registry.

There is detailed information on this and also step by step instruction published by Microsoft at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/955392

    Thanks

    Mohan
