White Paper Wednesday – Bulk Report Generation with SSIS and SSRS 2008 R2

,

Hey folks,

It’s white paper Wednesday and this week we’re looking at Bulk Report Generation using SSIS and SSRS 2008 R2 by Siddharth Mehta.

You can find it here: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff793463.aspx

This is quite a cool article and something our clients have asked about many times. I can’t wait to play around and prototype this solution. Here is the practical premise from the white paper:

“Consider a scenario where the IT department of an organization needs is generate a large volume of parameterized, expense reports and email the reports to a varying list of employees that do not have Active Directory accounts. The reports need to be generated and emailed on-demand. As this information is generated every month, the reports should contain only data that is related to the details of the month for which payroll has been processed.”

Some highlights of the whitepaper include:

1.  Combining SSIS and SSRS 2008 R2 to create solutions for mass on demand report generation and delivery.

2.  Being able to do this without subscriptions and schedules makes everyone happy!

3.  Removing the limits of traditional fixed schedule, data driven subscriptions.

4.  INSTRUCTIONS – Siddharth gave us a working demo!

Go check this out and keep your eyes peeled for all the other great whitepaper resources we’ll be reviewing on White Paper Wednesdays
