SSRS 2008: Able to view the reports in Report manager but getting "The operation has timed out" when trying to view using Report Viewer in Staging environment

    We have designed reports that work fine in the development and production environment, however, we are facing issues in the staging environment.

    In the staging environment, the reports work fine when we try to view them from Report Manager, however, ALL reports are throwing error of -

    "The operation has timed out", when we try viewing the reports through the application.

    Since the reports work fine on the production/development environment, I understand there is some environment issue in staging. The report loads in the report viewer on the aspx page but throws the error when user selects parameters and tries to generate the report.

    Points to be noted:

    1. all reports use the Shared Data Source

    2. the database is up and running

    3. the username/pwd for the connection string is same for both the Report manager and application.

    4. the default connection time out has not been tampered and the reports were working fine on staging uptill some time back.

    Suggestions please.

  • How long do these reports normally take in production? Check the view ReportServer.dbo.ExecutionLog2 to see how long it's taking in production, then compare the results to the same view on the staging db. If the numbers are way off, then it could be your staging server has other processes competing for resources. Do the numbers match up when you run it in Report Manager versus your application?
