Hi,
As a relative novice and following a recent automatic update to 2005 express SP4 on my windows XP system with Visual Studio 2005, I find that I cannot open a database connection in my previously working web pages and get the error message about sql server failing to open a user instance because a database file couldn't be copied.
I've only used the standard settings and locations for installation.
I've been searching the web for remedies and tried the suggested deletion of certain directories and setting permissions for both aspnet user and sqluser but still get the sanme problem. I've looked at my error log via sql management studio(free one) and all it tells me is that a database file couldn't be copied, but it doesn't identify which one or where!
I have also tried simply setting user instance to false in the connection string, however that seems to give me a permissions issue about failing to create new database.
I just didn't have this issue before the update, so any help you can give on diagnosing and fixing this would be greatly appreciated as I've come to the end of my knowledge and don't know what to do next to track down and fix what I assume will be a permissions issue, or missing/wrongly located file issue, or both.
Thanks in anticipation,
Peter D

Hi Satnam,
I'm logged in as an administrator when using the Sql Server management studio.
I appreciate that it may be because I'm using the free one from microsoft for 2005 express that I can't see all the info I would expect, but I live in hope!
