Is SQL Server Central

  • Is sqlservercentral.com is using a sql server as their database?

I'm just curious as this is such a big forum

Is sql server supports a forum like this?

  • Nah, of course not... It runs on Oracle. 😛

Yes, afaik SSC runs on SQL Server, 2k8 if memory serves.

  • SQL can support a hell of a lot more than a medium-sized forum.

    MySpace runs on SQL Server

NASDAC (stock exchange) runs on SQL Server

Pacific telco (iirc) runs on SQL Server

  • Not only is it running on SQL Server, but you can watch the monitoring on the system, live, from here[/url]. Check out how well it operates and see Red Gate's SQL Monitor at work. Fun stuff.

I'm a bit disappointed to see that a number of the SSC databases are using TORN_PAGE_DETECTION. And autogrowth on the SQLServerCentral database data file at 1 MB?

  • We'll be correcting things soon. Some of the idea behind SQL Monitor was to show you what an average instance looks like at many companies. Both Brad and I have been too busy to manage the servers, and we've let the IT team run them. They're not trained DBAs, and so they've done the best they can.

We'll be talking about the changes we make over the next few months.

Don't be angry - this was probably a way to show how good SQL Server performns even with a less than optimal setup 😀
