SQL Server 2008 SP1/R2 Security Differences

  • We recently built a SQL Server Enterprise 2008 R2 64 bit machine running on Windows 2008 R2 Enterprise 64 bit at the request of some of our developers. When they were ready to install their purchased application, the vendor said 'Oops, we meant SQL 2008 SP1, not R2'. They say their application will not run on 2008 R2 due to security differences between R2 and SP1. So far we have not been able to find out what these security differences are from the vendor. Searching the Microsoft web site and Google have not helped either. My question is this:

Do any of you know about any security differences between SP1 and R2? If so, can you point me to an article or something?

    Thanks,

    Chris

  • Anybody have any ideas?

    Thanks

  • None that I know of. The majority of the changes in R2 were around BI. iirc there were something like 5 changes total in the database engine, I don't recall security being among them.

Put the ball back into their court. "Could you please explain the details of those security changes?"

  • Thanks Gail. We have tried to get the specific errors from our vendor. Maybe they will come through some time soon. I'm just glad I wasn't missing something too obvious.
