I am trying to set permissions on the reporting server but this server type is not available in the Server Management Studio.
What should I do?

Is this SSRS 2008, SSRS 2005, IIS, or something else that you are trying to set permissions on?

SSRS 2008.

Also, I think all of the server instances share the same instance ID, would that be a problem and can I change that if it is or do I have to reset?

Multiple SQL instances don't share the same id. One SSRS instance per server is allowed.

Perms for SSRS 2008 are not performed through SSMS. You have to connect to the SSRS site as an admin and then configure perms.

In the books online it says that the perms are performed through ssms. That you can change the server type to reporting server 🙁

Are you looking at the correct reference?

You can look at the SSRS instance by clicking the connect tab in the object explorer and selecting reporting services. Then you can connect to an SSRS instance.

As for perms to see reports in SSRS 2008 you have to set those through the SSRS admin site. You can add users in SSMS to have database permissions on the reporting databases but not to manage reporting permissions.

That's exactly what I am saying, the 'reporting service' is not in the connect list. 🙁

I don't know what's wrong or if I set it up wrong.

I'm pretty sure you don't even need to install BIDS to be able to connect to reporting services via SSMS.

That said, what permissions exactly are you trying to set? You can't do very much through SSMS for SSRS 2008+..it's almost exclusively through the web console now (moving to sharepoint-style administration).

Yes, I installed everything. SQL Server 2008 R2 Express with Advanced Settings.

I tried the web settings and added myself as a sysadmin and user and I can't access the reports outside of firefox, not even in IE 8.0.
