maintenance plan and how to tell what it does

    I'm trying to figure out what some preexisting SQL Server 2008 maintenance plans do. In MS SQL Server Management Studio I expanded SQL Server Agent and Jobs. I right clicked on a maintenance plan and went to properties. I looked at General, Steps, Schedules, Alerts, Notifications and Targets. However, I don’t understand what it does or even what databases it affects. I think it backs up certain databases to other disk locations. How can I find out?

    Open up the maintenance plans themselves, not the jobs that execute them.

    You'll find them under Management-> Maintenance plans
