running databases on a SAN

  • Is anyone familiar running databases on a SAN, how can I check if my db is running databases on a SAN? Thank you

  • Ask the server administrator or whoever set up the physical server which drives are SAN drives and which ones are direct attached storage. Th SQL they look the same.

  • Well, since "sans" means "without", "san" must be the singular for "without". So, if you database is running with one "without", then it's on a "san".

Or it could be Japanese, "database san". Not as senior as "database sama", I guess.

    (Sorry, couldn't resist.)

  • or does the singular just correlate to with (without the out since without is plural)?

What does that make of the SANS Institute?

    Just pondering...

Seriously though - check with your server admin to find out which Drives are LUNS and which are Local.
