  What is the best approach to migrate DBs from SQL Server 2008 to 2008 R2 on different server?

  Backup /Restore?

  Backup, detach, restore.

  If something blows up, just re-attach the DBs to the original server and repoint your apps.

  I use this method whenever possible.
