Daily SQL Server 2008 New Feature – Day 13

,

Hi guys,  apologies for the delay with Day 13 – I’ve been sunning myself in the Canaries !

Every day for the next couple of weeks, I aim to highlight one of SQL Server 2008’s new features, simply for awareness. You can then go away and research the area and report back to me, we’ll then discuss how these new features can benefit us all.

FileStream Data

Its seems to be one of the most talked about new features of SQL 2008 – whats all the hype about ?

It “allows large binary data to be stored directly in an NTFS file system, while preserving an integral part of the database and maintaining transactional consistency”.

It enables the scale-out of large binary dat, which would normally be managed by the database to be stored outside the database on more cost-effective storage without compromise. More cost-effective – that has to appeal surely ?
