Hello Team,
I have sql server express edition installed. My sql server agent is not running. When I start this then it throws error as follows:
"This service started and then stopped. Some services stop automatically when they are not in use by other services or programs."
I can see that in the logon tab this service is running under 'Local System Account'.

As far as i know, sql agent services are not a part of express edition.

That's right - Express does not include the SQL Job Agent.
Might the installed service belong to some other installed instance of some other edition of SQL Server?
Has the machine in question ever had a prior version (say 2000) installed?
Do you try to upgrade it to Express or something?
Without more details, it's hard to guess.

I might have helped if:
a) You had mentioned that it was 2008 Express; and
b) If you had posted the question in the 2008 forums rather than 2005...
This situation is unfortunate - Microsoft apparently plan to fix this 'after RTM' 😀
