Hi All,
I'm trying to justify a purchase of RedGate's SqlResponse product, but have been told to find out if we can make SCOM 2007 do the same thing. I think we can, but we definitely don't have the knowledge of how to do it in-house.
Has anyone tried doing something like this in SCOM 2007 (basically alerting when something is wrong, kicking off a trace, email alerts, etc)? Since I have little knowledge of SCOM, I'm more or less looking for a quote in dollars and days that I can compare to SqlResponse.
Thanks for any help.

Hey Gary, your post came up when I was searching on SCOM. We're looking into evaluating it as a SQL Server monitoring tool as well. I do want to say that we have SQLResponse in-house and have found it to be highly inadequate for our monitoring/reporting needs.
Right now our clear winner is Idera's Diagnostic Manager, but management wants us to look at SCOM before they pull the trigger.

Hi Pam, I went for SQL Response knowing that the new version would be coming out pretty soon (SQL Monitor), and it's pretty nice. Another benefit was a much lower learning curve with SQL Response. SCOM can do a lot, but you have to figure out how to get it to do it.
