How do you test data mining?

Good question. I would assume that you run some data through, see what it mines it as, and then you backtrack through the data to see if the results are what you expect.
I would guess that you would send data with known results through as well and see if it comes out positive. For example, if you are trying to determine if people that do x will buy y, you send some characteristics of people that did x and bought y (known) through. If they come through, you mining analysis might be working.

There is code samples you could download and run in the link below, also run a search for prediction modeling for third party implementation of Data Mining. If you want to test code I think you could use Test Director and Clear Case, also test drive VS2010 Testing Edition.
