Sql server 2005 installation

  • Hi, guys how are you doing?

i have windows server 2003 and recently, i installed SQL server 2000 in drive "D" because i don't have more space in drive "C". and right now, i also want to install SQL server 2005 for reporting services.

my question is, if i installed SQL server 2005, will it save with the same path of sql server 2000? because i like both sql server to be installed in " D" partition.

    please i need your help?

  • You choose where you install each version. The named instance of 2005 will have nothing to do with the 2000 instance you have installed. If you upgrade, it will keep the settings.

  • thank you.

Actually, i want to install default instance so that all my databases will be installed automatically to SQL server 2005. so, you mean if i installed sql server 2005 default instance, it will hold the same path?

  • If you have SQL 2000 installed, you cannot install a default instance of SQL 2005. You would install a named instance, or upgrade your SQL 2000 instance to 2005.

  • Just specify the named instance when installing your databases and they will be on the 2005 instance. Now if you have an application that does not support named instances, that is an entirely different subject altogether...

  • Hi, guys how are you doing?

i have already tried with the installation of SQL server. as i said 1st i installed sql server 2000 sp3 to my "D" drive with the server name. and again i run sql server 2005 as default instance and then it holds the path of sql 2000 which is mssql. now, when i opened the Management studio, it is perfect because, i connected with my database and All my databases from sql 2000 are automatically installed in there and i think it is fixed.

    thanks
