2008r2 Primary Server and 2008 Mirrored Server

    I'm putting together a mirrored environment and the primary server will most likely be SQL 2008r2. The mirrored server would be an older server running 2008.

    Is there any other difference aside from 64/32 bit or any issues I might run into having a setup like this?

    I just found out r2 is totally different than 2008. I though it followed suit like W2k8r2 where the main difference is it's 64bit. I assumed r2 was similiar to a service pack release. Guess I was wrong!

    From my understanding of mirroring it would not be recommended to have different versions of SQL mirrored. I am sure I read thsi somewhere but cant find the article. Issue could be is someone enables a 2008R2 only component on the database how can it be mirrored to 2008?????

    SQL 2008 and 2008 R2 are completely different versions. SQL is not backwards compatiable so 2008 will not run 2008 R2 DBs.

    That won't work. You won't be able to restore the backup from 2008R2 onto the 2008 server.
