how to avoid copying SQL Server backups to a tape twice. Please give your proposal on how to avoid copying old backups to a tape.

You'd have to look at the tape-related software for that answer.

netbackup, backup exec or commvault are the big backup applications
there is also disk to disk, but i still prefer tape and it's a lot cheaper

Hello Friends....
In computers, tape backup is the ability to periodically copy the contents of all or a designated amount of data from its usual storage device to a tape cartridge device so that, in the event of a hard disk crash r comparable failure, the data will not be lost. Tape backup can be done manually or, with appropriate software, be programmed to happen automatically.

Thanks for the info, Carolwood, But that doesn't answer the OP's question. Does that software allow for de-duplicate backup procedures?
