Backup Transaction Log

  • Morning,

I have a bunch of databases that I have to look after and just want to make sure I am doing the correct thing when it comes to making sure the ldf file does not get too big and take up too much disk space.

One of the databases I have called cmdata is set up to Full Recovery Model.

The ldf file has been set up to Unable Autogrow. With File Growth set By 50MB.

The current size of the ldf file is 2.63GB

I have set up a Full backup everynight at midnight and then Transactional Log Backups every two hours from 06.00am to 22.00pm.

As I am taking a transactional log backup should this not be limiting the ldf file?

How do I get the ldf file to stay at a consistant size - as like I said I am worried about it growing too large.

    Thanks

  • If your Database is handling good amount of transactions , growth of log is expected.
