Replication - SQL Server 2008 Publisher/Distributor work with MSDE Subscriber?

  • We are looking at upgrading SQL server from 2000 to 2008. The SQL 2000 server is the publisher/Distributor of a replication scheme that has many laptops with MSDE as subscribers. If we just upgrade the SQL server from 2000 to 2008 without touching the laptops, will the replication still work and the laptops still be able to sync with the server? In other words, does SQL 2008 publisher/distributor work with MSDE subscriber?

    Thanks!

  • Hi,

This should work fine if subscribers are at least SQL 2000 SP3. Check http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143241.aspx for more details. Of course you should test it first 🙂

  • Thanks for your reply!

Microsoft says SQL 2000 with SP3 works in the SQL 2008 replication topologies. But did not says explicitly MSDE works with SQL 2008 replication. Maybe testing first is the way to find out.
