Hi all -
I'm just interested in knowing if anyone uses third party SQL Server monitoring tools and which ones they use. Currently, we just use the built-in tools, but we are finding out that these aren't enough. Any opinions on the matter would be greatly appreciated. TIA.
Happy New Year!

I have used different tools, but one that is very easy to use that has built in alert and reports is SQL DM by Idera/Quest software. They do provide trial version for 30 days, and the cost if like 300.00 per server. Many :-Others but SQL DM is user friendly and can provide a report that you can show management to justify getting additional space, or memory for your SQL Server.

DM is actually the one that I'm currently looking at. Idera's free version, SQLCheck, is nothing more than what is already built into SQL Server, just in a prettier GUI.
I'm trying to find a tool that will tell me who is running an expensive query, even if they are running it under an application username. For example, alot of our reports from reporting services run on the report server under a generic username - are there any tools out there that can tell me who is running the report?? I'm not sure if DM can tell me that....
Thanks!
