Hello all,
We have a dev server at a client's (SS 2000 SP4) with a copy of their live LOB db on it. Last week I got an email from one of their developers asking what the little hand icon means under the XXXX db.
The server had been config'd as a distributor and the db in question had been published. No articles had been set up. The production server and db were untouched.
According to them, none of their 3 in-house developers would know how to do this, and nobody claimed responsibility. This just somehow "happened". We do not have any replication in place, nor is there any foreseeable need to put it in place.
Unfortunately, there is little in the way of access security in place, and any one of the IT staff would have the security privileges to do this (ya, I know, but this is a separate issue all on its own).
So my question is: is there any way that replication could somehow have just "turned on" like this? My suspicion is that one of their developers was messing around and flipped it on and is now afraid to own up.
Thanks for any input.

Vik, It wont magically turn on... 🙂 Someone must have gone through the process. It is easy to set up with just some mouse clicks since everyone is a sys admin in those boxes...

Thanks,
Vik
