I've just got a new machine with Win 7 Premium Home 64-bit installed. I had SQL Server Express installed on my XP machine with no problems, and installed it (and the Management Console) on the new Win 7 machine. When I try to run either I get the error "Requires .NET v 4.0.21006". This (along with v 2.0, 3.0 and 3.5, is in fact installed. If I try to reinstall, I get the same error, but if I ignore it the installation starts and runs without problem for a little while, but when it gets to the "Select service" screen it will not let me select anything! Then, of course, the install will not proceed. The MS download sites are of little help.
What is the secret to installing and running SQL Server Express & Management Console on a Win 7 64-bit machine? I have given up!

Ed i think it has to do with the version you are installing; I think SQL Express and SQL Express with Advanced Services only let you connect to a SQL Instance's "Database Engine", so no connecting to Reporting Services,Compact Edition, Analysis Services or Integration Services.
If you were to install Developer Edition, Standard Edition or Enterprise Edition, you'd get what you were expecting ,I think.
