And don't forget the cumulative updates - I think CU4 is the latest. 😉

I don't apply those unless I have a problem that would be corrected by a CU. Those don't go through as stringent testing as the service packs (supposedly).

Oh, I absolutely agree - however there is a particular issue that is resolved in one of those for Standard Edition and lock pages in memory. Specifically - they enabled that capability in CU2 for 2008 SP1.

Okay, not needed. We are running SQL Server 2008 Enterprise Edition.

CU 5 actually came out a couple months ago for SP1. CU 6 will probably be out shortly. Hard to keep up with all the CU's. I'm more of a service pack guy myself.

I would not mind adding one of the CU to our DEV SQL Server but again you have to open a ticket with Microsoft to get it. Wouldn't you have to have a problem that is fixed by this in order to get it?

If you look at the top of the KB article for the CU. It has a "view and request hotfix downloads" link at the top. Clicking on this takes you to where you can download the CU by providing an email address MS can send the link to.

Thanks Edogg. I missed that! I have only downloaded and applied one other CU before and that was to fix a problem after I opened an incident with Microsoft. I am going to download and apply this.

The link for the CU5 only has 32 bit versions to download. There are no 64 bit versions and we are running 64 bit. I cannot seem to find anything about 64 bit.

You need to connect to the site using a 64 bit machine and IE, then the 64 bit versions will display. MS in their infinite wisdom thinks everyone connects with the machine they intend to patch and so they provide only that version.

Just great. THanks. I noticed on the download page it says it detected 32bit but there was nothing to note 'if you want 64 bit...'... jeesh!

There is a check-box above the list of available downloads - check that box and you should see the rest of the available platforms.

Nice! Thanks Jeff. Guess I glossed over that.
