DBA Objectives For Apriasal

  • Hi,

I have been asked to define my own objectives for my yearly appraisal and to be honest I am not entirely sure where to start as I have never really had to do this before.

Obviously the peeps here don't know me or my organisation personally but any suggestions would be appreciated as this is something I have never been exceptionally good at.

Who would have known that the tech bit is easier than the form filling bureaucracy.

    Thanks in advance.

  • What's your job? Are you a developer or production DBA? Are there things you were supposed to accomplish? Or think you should have?

I'm slightly confused. Are your objectives looking back or looking forward?

They used to say, being asked to define your own objectives for your appraisal, was a license to print money 😛

I would take a hard look at what your role encompasses now. what you do on a daily basis. One way of doing it, is to think about what you would want someone to know if they were going to do your job.

if you can bullet point those items, you have your objectives.

Normally an appraisal is used to see how you have done and how you can improve. sometimes it is used to decide financial rewards like bonus. for an example.

One of my objectives could be to expand my knowledge of reporting services So I can assist more with Business Intelligence within the organisation. whcih basically leads on to the appraisal where i can say I have taken my knowledge as far as I can, and my objectives for next year are to increase my knowledge further by looking at advanced courses on reporting services so I can cope with the added requests from the business etc etc

  • Steve, sorry I should have mentioned that I'm a DBA.

    And it's looking forward.
