Server front-end NAS back end?

  • A manager proposed using Windows server 2003 as a front end for sql 2005 and storing the production databases on NAS devices.

I have no experience in this area. This would be for an OLTP application with about 60 users.

My gut reaction is this won't work. Anybody have any feedback?

  • Yes, it's nuts, unless you've verified that the NAS supports write order preservation and write-through guarantees
