doing a baseline. what sample rate for processor should i use?

  im monitoring processor usage, just in preparation to create a more thorough monitoring solution for creating a baseline for my server.

  how often should i sample processor usage and other such data? once a sec, once a min or something in between?

  That depends on your goals, what you intend to use the collected data for, and what form of applications are running on your SQL Server now.

  I'd run every 5 minutes for a few weeks, get a baseline across all days.
