To the best of my knowledge I'm following the correct procedure for changing the SQL Reporting Services Service to use a domain account. Roughly speaking, i did the following:
-Opened Reporting Service Configuration Manager
-went to service account and chose to specify a domain account
(I forget when but was prompted to create an encrypted key backup file - which I did).
-entered in the appropriate info for the account
-used my account to assign the permissions (I'm a domain admin).
-everything was assigned, service restarted, and I was asked to backup my encrypted key file.
OK, now here I've tried everything:
-connecting to the previous file - creation fails
-specifying a new file - creation fails.
I've tried to restore the previous key (under Encrytption Keys) - can't do that either.
Every attempt to touch/create a key since the first successful file creation yields this error:
"Microsoft.ReportingServices.WmiProvider.WMIProviderException: The system cannot find the file specified. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070002)
at Microsoft.ReportingServices.WmiProvider.RSWmiAdmin.ThrowOnError(ManagementBaseObject mo)
at Microsoft.ReportingServices.WmiProvider.RSWmiAdmin.BackupEncryptionKey(Byte[]& encryptedBytes, String password)
at ReportServicesConfigUI.WMIProvider.RSReportServerAdmin.BackupEncryptionKey(Byte[]& encryptedBytes, String password)"
The installation of SQL Server 2008 was such a breeze I figured I was home free. Any deviation at all from default settings and it acts like an RC. I don't get it.
Is anyone else out there having these same problems (or not). I am also unable to change the SQL Server Service as well. SSIS service changed without incident.

I am facing the same issue on SSRs2008 installation. Can someone please shed some light on its resolution?
Thanks in advance.

I have exactly the same problem now.
Did you find a proper solution?
