SQL 2008 Developer re-install quietly stops - or dies?

  • Hello,

Sorry I don't have details of the original installation, but here is my problem. I'm hoping that someone might be able to help.

Some time ago I installed SQL 2008 Developer Edition on Windows XP. Then I uninstalled it (leaving the native client and support files). Now I want to re-install 2008, but just after it starts the stage where it is supposed to be installing the Setup Support Files (which I guess are already there), the CD drive goes quiet and nothing else happens.

Also, I have SQL 2000 Personal Edition and SQL 2005 Developer Edition on the same computer. I'm not sure if that makes a difference.

Does anyone know why the SQL 2008 installation would stop without any message or other activity? I also tried the Repair option under the Maintenance page of the installation, with the same result - the CD spins down, and the installation appears to stall.

Thanks in advance for any help.

  • Hi!

    see my post here: http://www.sqlservercentral.com/Forums/Topic798336-391-1.aspx

Almost the same error. I suggest further to remove the Native Client as well.

    With regards,

    Bones

  • Many thanks - I will check it out.
