Hi. I thought I would tighten security by removing BUILTIN\ADMINISTRATORS from the sysadmin role. I connected to SQL using Windows Authentictication, the account used is a domain account and is a member of sysadmins.
After removing BUILTIN\ADMINISTRATORS from sysadmins I was unable to select other logins. I disconnected and reconnected. The only logins visible were BUILTIN\ADMINISTRATORS and sa?
Any ideas?

So, you basically removed yourself from sysadmin access because your login is a part of the BUILTIN\Administrators group.

A couple of options:

1) Connect with a known SQL account with sysadmin privileges and grant your login sysadmin rights.

2) Put your windows account in the SQL Windows group for that instance, login and add your login explicitly with sysadmin rights, then remove your windows account from the group.

3) Put SQL Server in single user mode and connect using the sa account or DAC. Explicitly add your windows account to SQL Server with sysadmin rights.
