Deleted .mdf, .ldf, and .ndf file

  • Hello,

I have accidentally deleted deleted .mdf, .ldf, and .ndf files to a very important db and would like some recommendations on any recovery tool that anyone has used to successfully recover the files. Help would be greatly appreciated ASAP. Thanks.

  • Since it's an important database, wouldn't it have a backup?

You can try any disk undelete tool, providing absolutely no changes have been made to the disk since the files were deleted. Your chances however are not very good for recovering deleted database files.

  • I hope you have current backups. IIRC, the waste basket on Server may not be big enough to allow you to recover the database files like you would other files.

I thought it was off by default on Servers?

  • Apparently not on my servers. Any time I delete files it asks if I'm sure I want to move them to the trash can. I think it depends how big the files are.

  • I think you should take help of some OS/Computer guy who can help you in knowing whether files can be obtained back.
