Once I have a solution, do I need to close a topic ?

No. In fact, only the moderator can lock a topic and there's no mechanism to close a topic.

Also, just because you have a solution doesn't mean that someone else may not have another way of doing the same thing. Sometimes better, sometime not. Many times, the true learning comes from the discussion that follows, not just the determination of a "solution".
This one of the great things about SSC.

I typically only close duplicates or runaway, offensive threads.
We want to encourage discussion, and just because someone gives you an answer that works for you, doesn't mean it's a good, or the right answer. I want others to be able to add to them.
