Our sql server is on a two nodes cluster (active/active). When we tried to install SP3, everything went fine except the client tool. The same thing happened when we installed SP2 a while ago. Everything seem to work fine, except the client tool. Even though the database is working fine without the client tool patched, it would be nice to have the client tool patched also.
Would like to know in an active/active environment, is that the client tool has to be installed/patched separately on each node? And the same when applying service pack?
We have another sql cluster, which is on a four nodes cluster (all four nodes are active), and there are two instances of sql in this cluster. Would like to know if the client tool has to be installed/patched seperately on each node or not. Thank you!

How are you determining that the client tools have not been upgraded?

When I go to help and about from SSMS, it show the version and it's still the version before applying the patch.

The version that shows up there may not reflect the current version. To validate the client tools you need to look at the properties of the executables and dll's.

The other thing I can tell the client components are not patched is the maintenance plan. I could not access the maintenance plan by using the SSMS in this SQL cluster box, but can access them using the SSMS in another box which was patched successfully.
Would like to know if anyone has applied SP on a SQL Server cluster with all nodes active, and if they came across any problems with the client components.
Thank you.

What happens when you try to access the maintenance plans from SSMS on the cluster? Why do you say it is not working - and therefore, the upgrade did not work?
