doing manual Failover

  • I am a DBA, and today i have to manual failover the cluster.

i have cluster named "Test 1" with one node as active and one node as passive.

    so scenario looks like this

Test 1----> Node 1 is active

    Node 2 is passive

Now i need to do a manual failover so i am confused that do i need to move whatever is there in the cluster Group or not. In the Group i have "Cluster group", "MS group", "SQL group".

so by right clicking on those and then selecting move group will failover to Node 2 or not. please let me know if i am right or need some solutions asap.

    Thanks.

I am guessing this is windows server 2003, if that is the case then You select the group you wish to fail over and move that group to the other node, if this is a production environment be sure to let everyone know you are planning on doing this. It can cause time outs with certain applications depending on there settings.
