Making a table field accomodate wider values.

  • Until now, I've managed to live with the fact that every column in a table - from header - group - detail - group - footer is determined to be a set size - ie. either from the table controls or in the properties.

But this is now proving a real problem.

I have to (ie. being forced) put a long line of text in the group footer. The situation is in regard to printing statements. There are seven columns in the table - and I really don't want to a) Split the line of text (which reads something like '£33,000 is now overdue - please send payment by return') between the seven columns - thereby leaving large spaces in places or - worse still b) Reduce my table to one column and do manual formatting on the whole thing.....!!!!.

Is there no way of inserting a long line of text into a small width field without it reading down the page?

If not - then I really hope a future enhancement would allow you to link fields and treat as one field.

    Any ideas? Bruno?

(I can't use an extra table - because the report prints off all customer statements (ie. it groups on customer)- and an extra table would just put it once at the end.

  • Um, you can highlight multiple textboxes in a row and click "Merge" to make them all into a single textbox.

  • Why oh why didn't I see that??!!!!

As ever - the things you work on for days - have a simple solution......... usually staring you in the face every time you right click....

    Thanks Michael 🙂
