The process exit code was 128.

  • hi experts,

    I found that two of my backup jobs created using maintenance plan task was running for almost tow days.

    Today it stopped and thrown error

    Executed as user: sqlserver12\user. The return value was unknown. The process exit code was 128. The step failed.

    Please note that both of my task have maintenance cleaning task to delete ,bak files older than 3 days

    Please help.....

    Sounds like either a security or memory issue, is there anything in the event logs and what step did it fail on. and should the job take that long to run.

  • That was the error found in error log.

    Im not sure of the security issues but there was around 20 GB of free memory in the server.

    The step at which the job failed was step one ie backup job
