I deployed a new server a couple of weeks ago, with SSRS. Everything work fine except for subscriptions. We can run reports all day long, but I get an internal error when trying to set up a subscription. I went to Reporting Service Configuration Manager and the Web Service Identity didn't set up properly and is RED X. When I try to assign an application pool, I'll get another error telling me that I need to create a virtual directory.
"ReportServicesConfigUI.WMIProvider.WMIProviderException: A virtual directory must first be created before performing this operation.
at ReportServicesConfigUI.WMIProvider.RSReportServerAdmin.SetWebServiceIdentity(String applicationPool)"
When I look up in the list on the Configuration Manager, it is GREEN Checked, but if I try to apply default settings, I get the same error.
Like I said before, reports work, but subscriptions don't, so I would think the virtual directories were made.
Any ideas?

So you have SMTP service running in either local IIS or Exchange? And you are not configuring data driven subscription in SQL Server standard? If the answer is yes to both question are you running Vista or Win2008? both comes without SMTP service in Vista you may need third party free SMTP service if it is not fixed with service pack and Win2008 you need to go into IIS7 and pull SMTP from IIS6 within IIS7 to run subscription. I hope you understand what I am saying because it is confusing.

The SMTP works fine. Running Svr 2003. I can send myself emails using database mail.

I fixed it. I deleted the virtual directories from IIS and recreated them in the Reporting Service Configuration Manager. After that I was able to configure the Web Identity page.

I am glad you have fixed it because when SMTP service is running it is usually something simple.
