Had to reinstall SQL2k8 after hard drive failure on local desktop.
When accessing Registered Servers nothing shows, not even local and I get a .net framework message 'Key not valid for use in specified state'
I want to delete the previous registered servers but they do not appear in the Registered Servers tab. Where did SQL 2k8 put the Registered Servers Info?

You need to locate the registry key for the old installation and remove it before proceeding with the new install...

I've crawled HKLM-Software-Microsoft-Microsoft SQL Server settings in the registry and never found it. I uninstalled MSSQL2k, 5k and 8k and completely deleted all directories and every reference to MSSQL in the registry. When I reinstalled, same darn problem. Any idea what key?

Did you have SSAS or SSRS installed too?

First install was with everything, SSIS, SSAS, SSRS, etc... 2nd install tried for management tools only.

Then just rename or delete the VS folder from the below path...
'C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Application Data\Microsoft\VisualStudio'
Hope this helps...

I can still connect to my sql2k8 servers and run queries, etc. and they show up in object tab.
If I try to register from there I get message saying it's already registered but still can't see any servers in registered servers tab.
