Named instance

  • I need help ..urgent.

I want to create a named instance for a server in two different drives.?

I connected the server through Remote desktop connection.

I am in the Middle of the process. I gave a name to the instance. The shared feature is in C:\ drive. In the Instance configuration screen the Instance root directory shows C:\Program files\Microsoft Sql Server\MSrs10.xxx. Do i have to change the directory to F or G .

    Please .urgent

Do you have to? No. Do you want to? Probably yes. It is an option that you can choose.

  • Yes .you are right.

I would keep the instance directory in C:\ Drive and use the 2 other drive assigned for data. am I right?

If it were me, I would leave the installation files in C as you have said. Then I would modify the model DB settings to specify the other drives for Log and Data Files. I would also move system databases to one of the other drives (at least tempdb anyway).
