Cannot Connect To Report Server using Management Studio

  • Hi,

I am having issues connecting to my sql 2005 reporting server that I have connected to in the past six months without any issues. The host os is xp pro with SP2. Below is the error message:

    Cannot connect to COMPUTERNAME.

    ------------------------------

    ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

The attempt to connect to the report server failed. Check your connection information and that the report server is a compatible version. (Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.UI.RSClient)

    ------------------------------

The request failed with HTTP status 404: Object Not Found. (Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.UI.RSClient)

    ------------------------------

Additionally I can't get to the report server nor the report manager:

    http://localhost/reportserver and

    http://localhost/reports

dont work although they worked perfectly two days ago and I have successfully deployed several reports to the server in the past.

This is what I have covered so far:

    1) IIS is running and connected to the report server

    2) In reporting services config manager, I can connect to my server using my COMPUTERNAME which is the same name I'm trying to connect to

    Management Studio with

    3) In reporting services config manager, report server virtual dir and report manager virtual dir are config successfully

    4) Here is my rsreportserver.config file

    http://COMPUTERNAME/reportserver

The also uses my local COMPUTERNAME the same name I used in the past to connect to report server.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

  • Hi,

if the error is when connected from a network machine then try changing the machine name in the url to the IP address. if any other machine is added to the network with the same name then it may not be able to find the server.

Check if the firewall is blocking the port number used for the reportserver. if so add the port number to exceptions

    hope it helps

  • thetodaisies,

Thanks for your response however this is on a local dev machine and the machine name hasnt changed. Also I've try connecting with the IP address and localhost but same error.

Funny thing is this worked fine on Monday and also have worked in the past..
