  • For some reason at the homepage where we are supposed to see the latest forum posts, it shows nothing. At first I thought that this will be fixed pretty fast, but it is been going on for few days. Do I need to install something in order to see the latest forum posts?

  • @adi,

Last week we had to move the forums database onto a different server in order to keep the whole system up and running. Some of the way that it had been coded in the past meant that there were several links between the two databases that weren't particularly ideal, and were causing significant problems at the same time. As part of the efforts to stabilise the system we had to stub out the stored procedure that generates that display on the homepage.

Thankfully, the system seems to be calming down a bit now, thanks to some of the suggestions and optimisation efforts of the community here, amongst others. This means we should be able to get the query back in place fairly soon now. We also wanted to get our test environments set up here at Red Gate to mirror the setup on live as soon as possible with regard to the database move and linked servers. We had to do the move 'off the cuff', as the whole database server was totally locking up at the time. Bit of a transition from our normal test/release cycle, and we're trying to get back onto a slightly more stable process now!

Sorry for the inconvenience, normal service should be resumed shortly!

  • Hi Mel

Thank you for your response. I usually use this site a lot, but few weeks ago I went on vacation, and didn’t login to SSC. I was not even aware of the problems that you had. Only when I came back and started using SSC again I noticed that I don’t get the last forum posts list. In any case, I’m happy that the site is up and running since this one of my favorite sites (with and without the list:-)).

  • Adi,

Glad to hear you like the site! Out of interest, what is it that you particularly like about it? What would you like to have more of, and what do you think we could do better?

  • Hi Mel

I have to admit that I discovered SSC less then a year ago. By discover I mean started using it on a daily basis. I knew about this site before, but I rarely used it until few months ago.

I especially love the forums. There is a small group of users that have a fantastic knowledge about SQL Server and are sharing this phenomenal knowledge with us. I try to log in on a daily basis and each day I try to learn something new and also answer few questions for other posters.
