Hi All,
I'm facing tremendous issue when desiging the SSRS report. What i designed in layout page is not exactly coming in the report manager(line height is changing, rectanagle width is changing,etc..,) but i'm able to get the exact design in preview and even in PDF. I'm facing this issue over many times and i can't find why.
Is this bug of SSRS?. Or am i designing badly?. I'm using SSRS 2005.
Can you please help me out?

When you run it on the server and then export to PDF, does it look as it does when run from BIDS?

Yes. I'm getting the same design in PDF as in layout while exporting from Report manager. But while viewing in reportmanager/ report serve its not good.

Can you help me please?

I've witnessed the same problem in SSRS 2005 Report Manager, too. The report is designed and displayed perfectly in BIDS, but fails to render the same in Report Manager. Viewing the report in the .net viewer seems to be ok, though.

So, I don't have a solution to the problem. All I ever seem to do is flip back-n-forth between what I designed and how it shows up in report manager... repeat until the display in report manager is "good enough." A crappy, wasteful way to work.

There must be documentation somewhere that explains the rendering differences...

Thanks Peterzeke. But while changing the design to look better in report manager, mean time in PDF its not looking good where it looked good previously.

I'm very irritating to design the reports.

Don't you give up Arun.

In my case I did a merge cells on all columns for a header row in a table and one page in the report when exported to pdf was printing in bits and pieces across several pages.

After so many attempts at rebuilding the reports for several days, by chance I discovered this. Merging cells for a report table title is a common thing and never would I have realised that this would cause printing problems.

So, again do not give up, try building the report from scratch. do not make a copy of the existing report and make design changes. you never know what caused the craziness in the original report.

Like I said, it is only by trials we perfect the art.

Also, space(), chr(), vbcrlf, newline() might behave differently in Rpt Mgr, Excel, PDF......

I have run into a similar issue and to prevent this from occuring, I added a transparent box around the outside border of the report and sent this to the back. Now when you run the report, the transparent box will act like a fence for your other objects.
