Hi guys Im a beginner to sql server so i have a question, when do we use a full backup and a file back up because we know that file/filegroups backup is also an alternate to full backup but why do most ppl tend to go with full back-up when file/filegroups backup is an alterantive to full back-up in case of enormous data

File/FileGroup options allow you to backup different parts of the database - most often used with VLDB (very large databases) to minmize the backup and recovery times. Here is a link to a whitepaper HP put out some time ago which has some good information. BOL (Books Online) is also a good resource.
